Menactra- Meningitis Vaccine

Meningococcal desease is a serious bacterial infection that could lead to bacterial meningitis or bacteria in the blood called bacteremia. The Meningitis vaccine (Menactra) is recommended for children and adolescents, ages 11 through 18 with a second booster given 3-5 years later. The first dose is normally given during the routine pre-adolescent immunization check -up ( at 11-12 years). Those who did not get the vaccine during this visit should get it at the earliest opportunity available.
